Fun Ideas for good luck and starting your own traditions: |
Place pennies from the years you and your fiancée were born in each
other’s shoes – for good luck. |
Have the bridesmaids sign the bottoms of your shoes before the
ceremony begins. Whomever’s name is visible at the end of the day –
is to be the one who will marry next. |
Have your seamstress sew a small pocket into the lining of your
dress to hold the something old or something blue. |
Create a unique bouquet for each bridesmaid to carry. Tie a
personal message to it for them to read before the ceremony. They
may keep it as a gift. |
If
you have lost your mother or father before your wedding day,
commemorate him/her at the wedding with a single red rose inserted
into the bouquet of the bride. At the end of the aisle, the bride
presents it to the parent who places it in the empty seat next to
them. |
Have a grooms throw. Have the groom throw his
“black book”, or throw bouquets to both sexes
like they did in the 14th
centuries. |
At the beginning of your reception, start with
a dance. Ask the DJ or Master of Ceremonies
to ask couples to join the dance floor.
Little by little narrow the dance floor. Have
the DJ ask, “ who have been married for 1-3
years to kindly take their seats.” Then, 4-8
years, then 9-12. And so on. Who ever is the
last remaining couple, the bride presents a
bouquet to her in hopes that she and her
husband might be married as many years. |
Ask the guests to wear one of 3 colors of your
choice – a new twist on having theme
weddings. And decorate the ceremony and
reception using those three colors. |
Have a 100-200-piece puzzle made from a
favorite photo of the two of you. Ask guests
to sign the back of one piece on their way
into the reception (in lieu of the guest
book). A great keepsake for years to come. |
Collect love letters the two of you wrote to
one another throughout the years. Have them
read by members of the wedding party
throughout the reception. |
Dim the lights and have the guests light small
candles placed at their seats. Then have the
bride and groom introduction/dance to their
favorite love song. This makes for a
wonderfully romantic touch! |
Write your own lyrics to a love song, and have
the band put it to music at the reception. |
Write a personal message to each guest inside
his or her place cards – what a great
introduction! |
Instead of using table numbers, use names for
the tables. For example, use cities you have
been, names of flowers in your bouquet, even
titles of your favorite love songs. I
attended a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard where
the bride chose names of places on the
island. I was seated at “Edgartown”. |
Donate all the left over food and cake to a
homeless shelter after the ceremony. Have the
DJ announce this grand gesture! |
